COLLINS WINS NLMS at EAST ALABAMA

COLLINS WINS NLMS at EAST ALABAMA
By Jay Vaquer

Phenix City, ALA - August 4, 2007 - Of all the Late Model
series teams who appear at East Alabama Motor Speedway none is more exciting
than Ray Miller's National Late Model Series. Over 30 highly skilled
professional teams came Saturday night to compete with our local Late Model
drivers who faired well against the professionals. In fast time qualifying Mark
Whitener earned the pole with Johnny Collins on the outside. The second row had
our local legend Dana Eiland on the inside and local speedster Dewayne "Flat
Out" Johnson on the outside. On the third row local rookie William Thomas
qualified sixth with his JW Miller Land and Timber Scorpion Chassis Monte Carlo
equipped with a crate engine since his Sportsman motor expired the night before
at Penton Speedway where he went from 19th to seventh with five laps to go. When
the green flag dropped on the feature event, Johnny Collins, who is the current
NLMS points leader, wasted no time in asserting his dominance. He outran
Whitener to turn one and immediately began to distance himself from the full
field of 25 cars. Johnson was looking inside Whitener to take over third place
and Thomas was looking to the outside of Eiland to take his place.
